Martin is a film editor and documentary collaborator. Many of the films Martin has worked on have won awards. In 2011, Martin was executive producer on the feature documentary We Are Poets, which won the Youth Jury Prize at Sheffield Doc/Fest. The BBC series Bombay Railway won a Royal Television Society (RTS) award for Best Documentary in 2008 while God’s Waiting Room, a documentary by Channel Four and Century Films, won the same award in 2009. God’s Waiting Room was also in competition at the Prix Europa, in Berlin and won Best Multicultural Film. In 2014 Bloodshot: the Dreams and Nightmares of East Timor won Best Documentary at the RTS Awards.

After graduating from Sheffield College of Art, Martin worked as a film editor at the BBC for seven years before working as a freelance film editor on dramas and documentaries for the major broadcasters in the UK and the USA. Martin has been involved in teaching at graduate and postgraduate level since the mid-1990s at the Northern Film School and Salford University as well as as visiting tutor at Escuela Internacional de Cine y Television in Cuba.

In the last couple of years, Martin has been developing the Alumni Production Scheme at the Northern Film School. As a producer and executive producer for the scheme, Martin has worked with NFS graduates on a number of successful productions. The Northern Art Prize 2012 film was screened daily as part of a contemporary art exhibition at Leeds City Gallery and the Northern Art Prize 2013 film was broadcast by Sky Arts.
